J&K government vows affordable healthcare for all as new hospital opens in Kulgam
The Jammu and Kashmir government has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering affordable and inclusive healthcare to every citizen, as Health Minister Sakeena Itoo inaugurated a new 50-bedded Integrated AYUSH hospital in Kulgam district.
Speaking at the inauguration, Itoo said the government is “resolute” in expanding equitable healthcare services, particularly in rural and underserved areas. The facility, built at an estimated cost of ₹7.4 crore, aims to strengthen grassroots healthcare by combining traditional and modern treatment systems.
The hospital will offer services under Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani and Homeopathy (AYUSH), alongside diagnostic and wellness facilities. Officials say the initiative is part of a broader strategy to diversify healthcare delivery and make treatment more accessible and affordable for local communities.
Itoo highlighted the role of preventive healthcare and traditional medicine in managing chronic diseases and improving overall well-being. She added that the facility will also serve as a centre for health awareness programmes and community outreach.
The minister stressed that strengthening healthcare infrastructure in remote areas remains a key priority, with assurances of adequate staffing and resources to ensure smooth functioning of the new hospital.
The development comes amid increasing focus on improving public healthcare services in Jammu and Kashmir, as authorities seek to address gaps in access and quality across the region.
