Pagers, once the essential tool of choice for professionals like doctors and journalists in the 1980s and 1990s, have long been overshadowed by the rise of cellphones and smartphones. Yet, despite their decline, these devices never completely vanished.
According to experts, pagers remain relevant today due to their simplicity, reliability, affordability, and security. "Pagers are still in use because they are generally considered safe. They aren’t connected to public networks like the PSTN (public switched telephone network). A paging service operates on a standalone system, often privately owned," explained Rayad Kamal Ayub, a Dubai-based IT security expert and managing director of the Rayad Group.
Far from obsolete, pagers continue to serve as a secure messaging tool in specific industries where privacy and reliability are paramount.
